Vioxx Kidney and Liver Impairment
Acetaminophen in conjunction with NSAID's such as Vioxx can cause massive liver injury through the production of a toxic metabolite. The body eliminates acetaminophen and most NSAID's by changing them into substances (metabolites) that the body can easily eliminate however if taken in a dosage that is to large that the body cannot remove the drugs then this can cause liver damage. Some people are more susceptible to liver damage than other as well as people who frequently use alcohol are more likely to have liver damage with the use of drugs like Vioxx.
The signs of liver disease include abnormally yellow skin and eyes (jaundice), dark urine, light-colored stools, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. The signs can be similar to flu symptoms and may go unnoticed for several days if consumers believe their symptoms are related to their initial illness. Serious cases of liver disease may lead to mental confusion, coma, and death.
Vioxx can aggravate or trigger these conditions. If you have a history of kidney or liver problems, use Vioxx with caution. Kidney damage may result from long-term use; always drink extra water with your treatment. (http://www.accessmednet.com/prescription-drug-information/vioxx.html#about)
